 Chiptech attended the TSA’s Technology Enabled Living Event that took place in Leeds on 20th September, 2022 – “Enhancing personalised health and care outcomes across communities. Right Care. Right Place. Right Time.”

Pam from Mole Valley’s story set the scene for the day’s events and rightfully focused the room on the personalised outcomes we can create when we work together. Pam’s story showed that the well-known proverb “it takes a village” stays relevant throughout our whole lives.

Pam from Mole Valley’s story set the scene for the day’s events and rightfully focused the room on the personalised outcomes we can create when we work together. Pam’s story showed that the well-known proverb “it takes a village” stays relevant throughout our whole lives. Community plays a key role in all our lives; from our work community to our friends, family, carers, art classes, allotments and local support services. Technology Enabled Care (TEC) was not the final solution for Pam, TEC played a part in enabling her to integrate into her community again with the help of other wrap-around services and support. The holistic solutions, custom-tailored for Pam, have made a real difference.

“They’ve encouraged me to go back to the Community Centre where I used to do art classes…I’m not on my own anymore…I’ve got a new life” – Pam, Mole Valley

Iain Macbeath from Bradford District Council further highlighted the need for a holistic approach as we look to cater for the changing needs of our population and the people we serve. The continued education and involvement of prescribers and the wider social care community is key to the successful use of TEC within our personalised care solutions.

As the TSA and ADASS’s joint whitepaper from 2021 concluded, through supporting providers to embrace TEC, changing our expectations of TEC using joined up systems, responsibility and personalisation, we can bring TEC into the picture and help bridge that gap.

Iain made reference to the famous Henry Ford saying, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” We must raise awareness of TEC and help educate on what it can achieve and who it can help, so that it plays the right role in our care plans and solutions. With over 45% of prescribers not confident in deploying digital solutions, we must work together to raise awareness of the amazing, personalised outcomes that TEC can help achieve and how.

The importance of workforce awareness of TEC solutions was further touched on by Kerren Friend from the NHS Transformation Directorate who introduced their approach for increasing TEC adoption through evidence-based case studies and digital champions.

All these discussions revolved around how we provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time. The TAPPI2 Programme draws this all together with a focus on linking up services and TEC in order to achieve;

  1. A better understanding of what TEC can do
  2. Confidence in prescription
  3. Quality and Innovation
  4. Outcome based approach.

Thank you to the TSA for another thought-provoking event and for bringing together industry professionals from around the country to discuss some of the industry’s most important topics.
